588的彩舒适connecticut secretary of the state denise merrill has asked that all voters be considered eligible for absentee ballots in the state’s upcoming presidential primary due to the rapid spread of the coronavirus.
“through surprise october snowstorms, november hurricanes, to the threat of a global pandemic — voting in connecticut must go on,” merrill said. “the nature of covid-19, or the coronavirus, is such that public health experts advise minimizing crowds and direct contact with other people. in order to ensure that connecticut voters are able to cast a ballot on april 28, absentee ballots must be available for voters who want to follow public health advice and avoid polling places.”

588的彩舒适gabe rosenberg, communications director for merrill, said tuesday that the state has not made a decision about the primary, and is working with lamont, municipal registrars and federal officials, as well as officials in states with a primary scheduled for april 28, to determine the best course of action.
“our two primary concerns are to make sure that every connecticut voter who wishes to cast a ballot can do so, and that every voter who casts a ballot is able to do so in the healthiest possible way,” rosenberg said.
one state — maryland — has already postponed its april 28 presidential primary until june 2. new york and pennsylvania are considering that same option, according to reports.
the rhode island board of elections has also called for the presidential primary to be rescheduled.

to mitigate an outbreak of the coronavirus during polling times, the centers for disease control has issued guidelines, which include methods for cleaning and disinfecting polling stations, practicing frequent hand hygiene and encouraging curbside voting for people who need it.
